Frequently Asked Questions

The initial assessment?

Before we embark on our therapy sessions, during the initial assessment we shall agree the day and time of our meetings and from then, that time will be yours. Your sessions will last for 75 minutes. Noting this time, there are moments when one first comes for therapy they find the process overwhelming and find staying for the 75 minutes is too much to begin with. This is normal and you will not be forced to stay for the whole 75 minutes if you are experiencing this at the beginning stage of the therapy. However, regularity and continuity are important for effective therapy, as they give a sense of structure to the process.

Confidentiality?

Confidentiality is important, and it is best not to discuss with other people what happens in therapy.
Under the Data Protection Act 1998, I will not discuss you, except in a professional way in supervisory meetings, with my supervisor. This is to ensure firstly, as a professional psychotherapist, I am working both ethically and safely, providing you with the best service, which falls in line with The British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). Secondly, if for any reason I felt you might be at risk, or pose a risk to others, then I would share this information in line with The British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy Safeguarding framework.  However, I would speak to you first and let you know of my intentions.

Safe practitioner?

In addition I always take part in Continued Professional Development (CPD) as part of good reflective practice.
